A spontaneous trip to Shanghai
How an unplanned journey can become the most memorable part of a route.

On Tuesday I was staring at the screen and dreaming about a trip. Dubai and the Maldives looked too expensive. Then I typed "Shanghai tomorrow." The fare was surprisingly low. I clicked buy with a slight sense of madness - and did not regret it for a second.
I had already been to Shanghai twice: first by chance, then on purpose. This time I went just to walk. It turned out to be exactly the right decision.
I did not chase a must-see checklist. I simply stepped outside and walked wherever the city pulled me. I already knew some lanes, remembered the way to the river, and that feeling was pure magic. Not "covering a city," but simply being inside it.
The most memorable moment was simple enough to make me emotional. On the last day, it snowed. I looked up and caught snowflakes in noisy Shanghai. Then I walked into a familiar little restaurant where they greeted me like an old friend. Snow outside, hot soup inside - what could be better?
Those four days gave me one simple and important thought: do not wait. You do not have to spend years planning an "ideal trip." Sometimes it starts on a Tuesday evening with one spontaneous click.
Life is too short to postpone it until "someday." Sometimes "someday" should arrive on a Wednesday morning. Tested on myself.
Do you have a city you want to escape to for no reason at all? Check the tickets. At least now.
